Sepideh wants to become an astronaut. She spends her nights exploring the secrets of the universe, while her family will do anything to keep her on the ground. The expectations for a young Iranian woman are very different from Sepideh’s ambitions, and her plans to go to university are in danger.
But Sepideh holds on to her dream! She takes up the fight and teams up with the world’s first female space tourist, Anousheh Ansari.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Berit Madsen’s films have been screened at festivals across the world and aired on everything from pay-per-view in the U.S. to public television in Nepal. She is a graduate of the film school Les Ataliers Varan in Paris.
Sepideh had its world premiere at IDFA 2013 followed up by a U.S. premiere at Sundance 2014. Since the premiere, the film has been screened and competed at more than 50 festivals, and shortlisted for the Grierson Award. a screening at the Fair Festival in Tehran in 2014 fulfilled the filmmakers’ ambition to see the film in Iran. The film has been sold for distribution in 34 countries, and is creating an outreach strategy for U.S. engagement in partnership with Picture Motion.
