Does the premiere have to be in the US?

No, your film can have premiered outside of the US. As long as the film has premiered or will premiere by April 2022 , there are no restrictions for the festival’s geographic location. Although the film may have premiered anywhere in the world,  eligible filmmakers must be US-based directors who are embedded in the communities their film centers and who are exploring a range of social justice themes and issues affecting the US.
