SYNOPSIS

In 2007 Donna and Jeff Sadowsky of Long Island, New York submitted their dossier to adopt eight-year old Fang Sui Yong from Guangzhou, China. From the very first moment Sui Yong meets her new mother, Donna, we get a real sense of the emotional confusion and loss Sui Yong experiences, as adoption workers translate their first words of communication. This day will change Sui Yong’s life, forever.

 

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Stephanie Wang-Breal smiles, looking away from the camera. The film was awarded three Grand Jury Best Documentary Awards at the AFI/ Discovery Silverdocs Film Festival, the Asian American International Film Festival, and the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, as well as a 2011 CINE Special Jury Award. The film was broadcast nationally on P.O.V. in 2010. Stephanie also directs commercials and stories for various media outlets, including Radical Media and MTV.

Stephanie Wang-Breal’s second documentary, Tough Love, premiered at the Full Frame and HotDocs Canadian International Film Festivals in 2014. She also directs  commercials and stories for various media outlets including Radical Media and MTV.
