SYNOPSIS

Meet the Patels is a laugh-out-loud real life romantic comedy about Ravi Patel, an almost-30-year-old Indian-American who enters a love triangle between the woman of his dreams … and his parents. Filmed by Ravi’s sister in what started as a family vacation video, this hilarious and heartbreaking film reveals how love is a family affair.

ABOUT THE DIRECTORS

Meet the Patels is co-directed by Geeta Patel and Ravi Patel.

Sienna colored portrait.Geeta Patel’s first documentary, the thriller Project Kashmir, premiered at IDFA and on PBS’s Independent Lens; the film led to three Sundance fellowships and a Tribeca All Access fellowship through Tribeca Film Institute. Geeta is also the writer/director of the upcoming narrative feature Mouse, produced by Grant Hill. She began her career as an Associate Screenwriter for Universal Pictures. Recently, she was a Visiting Artist in Belarus and Turkey as one of 29 filmmakers chosen for President Obama’s film delegation.

Color portrait.Ravi Patel is most recognized for his acting work in films and television shows including Scrubs, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Transformers, Powder Blue, and The New Normal. In 2013, he co-founded the company This Bar Saves Lives, which gives a meal to a starving child for every granola bar they sell.

Recipient of the Tribeca All Access Fellowship, Meet the Patels had its world premiere at Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto, where it received the Top Ten Audience Favourite Award. The film premiered in the U.S. at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2014, was released theatrically by Alchemy, and is now available to stream on Netflix.
