SYNOPSIS

In the editing room of a small studio in Toronto, a filmmaker starts losing her sight. Shadow Girl is an autobiographic film which follows her journey into darkness and depicts her struggle to reclaim her dignity and her voice as an artist. In her deeply personal film, Chilean born director Maria Teresa Larrain, uses the dislocation and loss of identity she confronts as the emotional springboard to create a lyrical tone poem at once accessible and very human. While raising complex questions about art and “vision,” able and dis-abled, poverty and privilege, Shadow Girl challenges the viewer’s own assumptions and outlook on the world.
